Rechargeable Lighting FAQs

Choosing rechargeable lighting without a nearby socket

For a table away from a socket or a flexible evening light, compare battery runtime, light output and charging access. A rechargeable lamp can reduce trailing cables, but the place where you charge it still needs planning. For a wall-mounted model, check how it attaches and whether the light can be removed for charging.

For a reading seat or a room with only one ceiling point, use our living-room lighting guide to compare where plug-in lamps and rechargeable lights fit into the room.

How long do rechargeable lamps last on a charge?

Runtime depends on the model and brightness setting. Compare the manufacturer's stated runtime at the setting you intend to use, charging time and supplied charging equipment. If those details are not listed, ask us to confirm them before ordering.

Are cordless lamps suitable for reading?

Check light output, beam direction and how close the lamp will be to the page. A decorative cordless lamp may provide atmosphere without enough useful reading light. Compare the individual specification rather than assuming all rechargeable lamps are task lights.

Can rechargeable lamps be used outside?

Only where the manufacturer states that the model is suitable for the intended outdoor conditions. Check its IP rating and care instructions, including storage and charging requirements.

What is the difference between plug-in and rechargeable lighting?

A plug-in light needs access to a socket while in use. A rechargeable light can operate away from a socket for its stated battery runtime, then needs charging. Check mounting requirements separately for wall-mounted designs.
