Floor Lamps FAQs
What type of floor lamp is best for reading?
Look for a fitting that directs useful light toward the page or chair rather than simply illuminating the ceiling. Adjustable arms, directional heads and arc lamps can all work well depending on the seating layout.
What's the difference between an arc lamp and a tripod floor lamp?
An arc lamp projects light outward over furniture; a tripod or upright lamp keeps the light source closer to its base. Choose according to where the lamp can stand and where the light needs to reach.
What colour temperature suits a floor lamp?
2700K creates a warm evening atmosphere; 3000K is a little clearer while remaining warm. Match it with the rest of the room rather than treating one Kelvin value as mandatory.
Can floor lamps be dimmed?
Some have built-in dimmers or dimmable integrated LEDs; others depend on the bulb and switch arrangement. Check the individual product specification.
Where should I position a floor lamp?
Beside a sofa or reading chair, in a darker corner, or wherever the room needs another layer of light below ceiling level. Read our living-room guide.
