What IP rating do I need for bathroom lighting?
It depends on the bathroom zone and likely exposure to water. In Zones 1 and 2, BS 7671 requires at least IPX4, or IPX5 where water jets are likely. Always check the fitting's stated suitability and ask a competent electrician about the final installation. Read our bathroom IP guide.
Is IP44 suitable for a bathroom?
IP44 provides IPX4 protection against water, so it can meet the minimum water-ingress requirement for Zones 1 and 2 where water jets are not expected. Suitability still depends on the exact location, the fitting and the manufacturer's instructions.
Where should bathroom mirror lights be positioned?
Lighting either side of the mirror at around face level often gives more even facial light and fewer shadows. An above-mirror fitting can also work where the layout suits it.
Should I choose warm or cool bathroom lighting?
3000K gives a warm, comfortable feel; 4000K looks crisper and can suit task-heavy bathrooms. Consistency between ceiling and mirror lighting usually matters more than chasing one universal number.
Can bathroom lights be dimmed?
Some can, but the lamp or LED driver, fitting and dimmer must all be compatible. Check the individual product specification before ordering.
